Kültürel mirasımızın önemli bir grubunu oluşturan kitabeler barındırdıkları bilgiler itibarıyla da birçok alanın çalışma konusu olmuştur. Sanat tarihi disiplini açısından kitabeler, içeriklerinin yanı sıra biçim ve süsleme özellikleri itibarıyla de büyük önem taşımaktadırlar. “Bartın Amasra Müzesindeki Osmanlı Kitabeleri” isimli bilimsel araştırma projesi kapsamında, çeşitli tarihlerde satın alma veya toplama yoluyla Amasra Müzesine getirilen Osmanlı dönemine ait 115 kitabe incelenmiştir. Bunlardan 113’ü mezar taşı, 2’si yapı kitabesidir. Tarihi tespit edilen 53 eser H. 1107 / M. 1695 ile H. 1318 / M. 1900 yılları arasına aittir. Bunlardan 1’i 17. yüzyıl, 18’i 18. yüzyıl, 31’i 19. yüzyıl, 3’ü 20. yüzyıl tarihlidir.

The Roman army first made its mark on Anatolia in the Battle of Magnesia in 190 B.C. From this date on, the Romans steadily increased their influence their influence in the region. The Roman system of provincial administration was applied throughout Anatolia, starting in 129 B.C. with the transformation of the Kingdom of Pergamon into a province and continuing with the reorganisation of the Kingdom of Bithynia from 74 B.C. on. During this period, when the Romans having to deal with the conflict between Bithynia and Pontus, Pompey resorted to the solution of uniting the territory in a new province of Bithynia-Pontus, once the Third Mithridatic War had ended.

Bölgede Nikomedia başta olmak üzere yerleşimierin paleocoğrafyası incelenirken, jeolojik, jeomorfojik incelemeler kapsamında sediman ve toprak yapısı, tarihsel çevre yapısı, işlenmiş ve işlenmemiş doğal kaynaklar hem lokal hemde bölgesel olarak ele alınıp bir taraftan tarihlendirilmesi yapılmaya çalışılırken diğer taraftan elde edilen jeolojik buluntular arkeolojik yerleşimve kültür varlıklarıyla ilişkilendirilmekte, böylece sonuçlar daha sağlam bilimsel temeller üzerine oturtulmaya çalışılmaktadır.; Nicomedia served at different times as the capital of the Hellenistic Kingdom of Bithynia, the Roman Province of Bithynia & Pontus and the Eastern Roman Empire. The Gulf of Nicomedia was an opening to the whole world, and the economic and strategic opportunities that the city’s naturally protected harbour provided were the main reasons for Nicomedia’s fame and status. This paper deals with the geoarchaeology of ancient Nicomedia and its environs, indeed with the whole province of Kocaeli. Although much work has been done on the area in general within the paradigm of the earth sciences, this paper is the first study to approach the archaeology of this region from the perspective of the earth sciences. The geological particularities of the region and the fame and great archaeological potential of Kocaeli have prompted the emergence of an interdisciplinary research project. Nicomedia in particular, but also other archaeological settlements, have been examined in terms of paleogeography. Rock structure, tectonic, historical and instrumental period earthquakes, historical structures, as well as raw and processed materials and resources have been examined both in a local context and in comparison to the wider area from the point of view of geology and geomorphology. In the longer term, all the geological evidence will be combined with data related to the archaeological objects and settlements in order to provide a more rounded and scientifically-grounded acount of the area.

As it is known, within the first quarter of the 3rd century BC the city of Nicomedia which emerged as one of the most important cities of the ancient known world in northwestern Anatolia continues to be the focal point of humanity from past to present. While the ancient texture of the city is being unearthed by archaeological studies that grow and gaining diversify day by day, the impact of this potential on human mobility in the region and its contribution to modern culture and recognition are increasing. In this respect, the study aims to deal with the importance and essence of the Bithynian dynasty in antiquity, and approaches the reflections of the cultural heritage of the kingdom in the Hellenistic world with literature and archaeological findings. Our study which aims to contribute to the ancient world-wide recognition of the Kingdom of Bithynia outside its borders and the impact of the cultural heritage generated by, focuses on the prestige of it’s capital from thousands of kilometers away in a wide geography such as to Rome, Delphi, Delos and Kos Islands, Macedonia, the Pontus Kingdom, the Galatians and Galatia Region and it’s Hellenistic cultural heritage which seems trapped in small details among the studies on the struggles between Kingdom of Pontos and Rome, brought to our modern world will be explored.
