provinces for the first time in 2018. The IYEP was prepared in order to eliminate the learning deficiencies
of disadvantaged students in literacy and basic mathematics skills in early grades. In this direction, the
aim of this study is to reveal the opinions of classroom teachers about IYEP and its implementation
process. The study was conducted within the scope of phenomenology, one of the qualitative research
methods, with 6 classroom teachers who had previously worked in İYEP in villages and central schools in
Edremit district of Van province in the 2021-2022 academic year. The study data was collected by a semistructured
interview method, and data was analysed through content analysis. The results of the study
indicated; It has been reached that the program’s hours are limited, the support of the parents is
insufficient in the process and there are student absenteeism. The suggestions of the participants for the
development of the program are to increase the activities in the IYEP books, prepare a separate book for
esch module, remove the time limit to increase academic success, and to hold a midterm exam so as to
pass to the next module.
