Abstract
Geographic areas outside the metropolitan settlements which are composed of provinces, districts and villages are called as rural areas. In rural areas, economic activities significantly depend on natural production resources. Tourism activity is a factor to be reckoned with in local development. Based on this fact, we can denote the aim of this study as to reveal how tourism can contribute on the livelihoods of Amasra and its villages. Tourism activities will provide the income to people of the region which they used to desire, they will eliminate the phenomenon of migration arising from unemployment and this will bring together an increase in employment rate. The biggest problem of the local community is unemployment. According to statistical data, people emigrate from the villages constantly and populations of the villages are decreasing. The lack of production and working facilities around the land forces people to migrate. If tourism activities can be developed in the area, economic activity will accelerate. Because, tourism sector employs both skilled and unskilled labor. When Amasra’s natural vegetation and its tourism infrastructure consisting of historical and cultural values are used together with its underground and aboveground riches, migration will be prevented. Increasing economic activity will bring longed-for prosperity to this beautiful corner of Turkey.
