Instructional Explanations of Mathematics Teachers and Preservice Teachers on Misconceptions: The Subject of Probability

The aim of this study is to examine the awareness of mathematicsteachers and preservice teachers on misconceptions related to thesubject of probability and their instructional explanations about whichmethods should be used to correct these misconceptions. The studywas carried out with six mathematics teachers and three preserviceteachers studying in the 4th grade of a state university's secondaryschool mathematics teaching program. The case study method wasused in the study. The interview form consisting of nine questions wasused as the data collection tool. As a result of the research, it wasdetermined that teachers and preservice teachers could generallyidentify the misconceptions related to a positive-negative regencyeffect, simple and compound events.
