Özet
Inci Magazine is a magazine for women which started broadcasting in the years when Istanbul was under occupation. Even if it stopped broadcasting from time to time, it was publised from 1919 to 1923. Magazine reflects the views of the intellectual men and women of the era about women acts in the World and creating a new image for women in the Ottoman society. Even if fashion news seemed to be prominent subject, a good number of articles about art, literature and history were also published. Beyond being a magazine, Inci informes significantly about social structure of the era especially indicating how the years of war effected Ottoman society and the women. As a magazine which was published in the transition years from Osmanli to Cumhuriyet, it has a great importance in respect to have revealed the social and cultural reflections of this period. It can be seen that the magazine not only shares the fashion trends of the West, but also tries to create a national fashion background via the articles in it. Besides, the magazine has a purpose to enlighten women through the articles about art, literature, history and etc. Instead of seeing the women issue as a problem, Inci takes the initiative of the modern-day magazines by including subjects which entertain, enlighten and attract the women. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the given messages of Inci Magazine and its position in the women acts of the era by examining the magazine in terms of its content and subjects. © 2018 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
