Özet
As the population in the cities increases, the need for public life spaces also increases. Contrary to increase of the needs, green spaces and public spaces gradually decrease. The aim of this study is to emphasize empathic approach to design process to create sustainable and liveable urban environments. Not only design approach which focus on function and aesthetic, but also empathic design approach is needed to make human-friendly public spaces. Designer and public space user are both important components of empathic design. Empathy is wide fields of study from art, aesthetics and to education and economy. In this study, empathic design process for public spaces in urban environment has been presented in an extract framework. The author has correlated Maslow's hierarchy of needs with potential use of empathic approach to public space design. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
