A Research Using Landscape Metrics on Assessment of Landscape Structure in Bartin City and Arit Basin

Abstract

In this study, land cover datas were used which were digitized on the topographical maps which were drawed by General Command of Mapping in 1984 and 2001. Landscape structure was assessed on the land cover maps using landscape metrics. Landscape metrics were used to define and assess landscape structure. This study aims to contribute to landscape assessment. Landscape assessment is the first step for landscape planning, landscape management and conservation studies. In the study area, agricultural fields (% 16) were decreased and housing areas (% 200) were increased in time. Fragmentation was decreased. In time, forest areas (% 10) were increased. Related to this, forest core areas were increased. In the same time, related to decrease agricultural fields, human activities were decreased in the area. Increasing forest areas and decreasing human activities in the area is positive for wild life.
