CYPRUS IN GREEK AND AMERICAN CIA DOCUMENTS IN THE LIGHT OF STRATEGY AND THE SECURITY

Abstract

The island of Cyprus, throughout the history, is supposed and believed to be thatof the immigration and that of the issues. Taking a glance at the last century, it isobviously seen that, even though the island seems to be out of the wars and thestruggles in some points, the island itself just takes a place in the very midst of thoseabove?mentioned struggles. Especially starting from the WWI, the island occupies avery unusual place both in the conflict of interest and the struggles of the islandcenteredand various conflicts surrounding Cyprus. In 1914, and subsequent to thebreaking WWI out, in addition to the Enosis conflict caused by the Greek Cypriots, theefforts for the annexation of the island to Greece, and the British policy towardsGreece all increase the problems more and more. In this scientific study, it is aimed,in priority, to focus on the 1955?1974 conflict and armed struggle period in whichboth Turkish and Greek Cypriots all take place through the CIA and Greek officialdocuments.

Kıbrıs adası tarihin her döneminde göçler ve sorunlar adası olarakbilinmektedir. Son 100 yıllık sürece bakıldığında da Kıbrıs bazı evrelerde savaşlarınve silahlı mücadelelerin dışındaymış gibi görünse de savaşların, çatışmaların, silahlıeylemlerin tam merkezinde yer aldığı anlaşılacaktır. Özellikle Birinci DünyaSavaşı'ndan itibaren gerek ada merkezli, gerekse adayı içine alan jeostratejik eksendefarklı menfaat çatışmaları bağlamında Kıbrıs bu çatışmaların ve silahlı mücadelelerintam ortasında yer alır. 1914 ve sonrasında adada Rumların ateşlediği Enosisfaaliyetlerinin ardından Yunanistan'ın adayı ilhak gayretleri ve İngiltere'nin Kıbrıs'ıbu ülkeye hediye etme girişimleri, sıkıntıları bir kat daha artırır. Bu bağlamda sözkonusu bu çalışmada öncelikli olarak tamamında Kıbrıs Türklerinin ve Rumların rolaldığı 1955–1974 sürecinde adada yaşanan çatışma ortamı ve silahlı mücadele,Amerikan Merkezi Haber Alma Örgütü (CIA) ve Yunan istihbarat kaynaklarıvasıtasıyla ele alınacaktır.
