The Importance of Cultural Heritage in Local Development: An Example of the Art of Cekicilik in Amasra

Abstract

In Amasra, art of & ccedil;ekicilik, which has survived from prehistoric times to the present day, is also the most important cultural heritage for Amasra, as a branch of art whose material is wood and produced by shaping wood. Although it is known that this tradition, which has been going on for generations as a Turkish cultural heritage, has tourism value for Amasra, it is also important to investigate its contribution to the economy. Because the impactof this art, which has cultural heritage value, on local development is gaining importance day by day. For this reason, it has become important for the public to adopt, protect and maintain the art of & ccedil;ekicilik as a cultural heritage. In recent years, it has been seen that the concept of sustainability has an important place in development theories. For this reason, it would be correct to consider the art of & ccedil;ekicilik, which will be considered as a subject of local development, in this context. In this study, which was supported within the scope of the T & uuml;bitak 2209-A Project, the importance of this art for the local people and its contribution to the region as an economic and tourism value were investigated with the information obtained by reaching the source people through the oral history method. It is aimed to emphasize the importance of the art of & ccedil;ekicilik as a cultural heritage, to realize its value and to create conservation awareness.
