A group of pseudo-alloys recognized as “tungsten-heavy alloys” (WHAs) consists primarily of tungsten, along with Ni-Fe and Ni-Cu components. These alloys find common application in shaping nuclear and high-density materials, serving as the foundation for structural, electrical, and electronic components. The technique of mechanical alloying employs a powder-processing method wherein pulverized particles are repeatedly cold-welded, fractured, and re-welded within a high-energy ball mill. By utilizing mechanical alloying, the incorporation of alloying elements into the tungsten lattice is facilitated, thereby enhancing their solubility within solid structures. This article showcases recent advancements in the microstructure and mechanical properties of mechanically alloyed WHAs, examines their impact on heat treatment conditions, and explores the advanced processing techniques that have emerged. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
