Predictor of Life Satisfaction in Physical Education and Sport Teacher Candidates: Self Discipline

dc.description.abstractThere have been many scientific studies on the reasons how individuals have been able to provide life satisfaction throughout their lives and what conditions affect this situation, and many scientific studies have been done on the reasons that may affect this situation. In this study, the purpose of this study was to investigate the concept of self-discipline as a predictor of life satisfaction of prospective physical education and sports teachers. The research is a relational survey model and the universe of the research consists of physical education and sports teacher candidates studying at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Sport Sciences and Faculty of Sport Sciences in Bartin University in 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of 273 physical education and sports teacher candidates who were selected with easy sampling method from this universe. In the research; Personal Information Form, Life Satisfaction Scale and Five Factor Personality Inventory were used. Within the scope of the research, the candidates of physical education and sports teachers were asked to answer the items of life satisfaction scale and the items of sub-dimension of self-discipline which is one of the sub-dimensions of five-factor personality inventory. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that life satisfaction and self-discipline scores of physical education and sports teacher candidates showed significant differences according to gender (t=3.29; p<.05 - t=,23; p<.05). In addition, it was found that life satisfaction scores of physical education and sports teacher candidates showed a significant difference according to class levels (F = 3.29; p <.05), whereas self-discipline scores did not show significant difference according to class levels (F = .62; p>.05). As a result of the study, it was found that self-discipline was a significant predictor of life satisfaction (t (6.03) = p <.05) and explained 11% of the total variance. The findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and recommendations were made.
