Urban conservation-usage planning of Safranbolu Old Bazaar

Abstract

Urban planning is important in terms of the continuity of the historical features of the cities as well as fulfilling the living requirements of the age. Safranbolu is a world heritage city with its cultural values. The aim of this study is to protect and preserve the universal historical and cultural values of the city, to ensure its continuity by integrating its natural and cultural features together, to increase the quality life of the city for daily use and touristic uses. In the study, a conservation-usage planning was proposed for the Safranbolu Old Bazaar City and its surroundings. The urban planning proposal was made by taking the opinions of the public with the survey as well as on-site observation and field studies. ArcGIS 10.2 and Photoshop CS6 software were used for field analysis and preparation of layouts. It is predicted that the study will be useful in terms of setting an example for similar historical cities and contributing to the application. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
