Özet
Today, rapid population growth and increasing urbanisation have resulted in higher levels of vehicle traffic, and this has contributed to the deterioration of historic buildings within cities. Protection of historically important sites must be done in conjunction with the promotion of tourism, the provision of public transport and pedestrian zones and the creation of open-space recreation facilities. Safranbolu has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1994, as a city under first-degree protection. In this paper, the pedestrian area within the Safranbolu Historic Bazaar District, which is in the historical city centre in Safranbolu, has been chosen as an area for research. Strategies were developed in accordance with the findings from a field study involving urban space analysis. Principles for landscape design within traditional pedestrian areas were then determined. © 2018 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
