A RESEARCH ABOUT POVERTY PERCEPTION OF HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS : BARTIN PROVINCE EXAMPLE

Abstract

Poverty may be expressed as a situation where persons can not meet their basic requirements needed by them in order for them to maintain their lives. As for perception of poverty, it is a concept which may be explained by subjective and objective formations and which includes the assessments of persons about poverty. This study aims at setting forth the perception of poverty of household members on the scale of Bartın province with reference to poverty indicators. During the study, a questionnaire was conducted to randomly chosen 394 household members. It was found from the obtained findings that household members in Bartın did not perceive themselves as poor and that they guessed that poverty rate in Bartın province was approximately at 27% level

Yoksulluk, kişilerin hayatlarını sürdürebilmeleri için ihtiyaç duydukları temel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayamadıkları durum olarak ifade edilebilir. Yoksulluk algısı ise öznel ve nesnel oluşumlarla açıklanabilen, kişilerin yoksulluğa ilişkin değerlendirmelerini içeren bir kavramdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, hanehalkı bireylerinin yoksulluk algılarını yoksulluk göstergelerinden hareketle Bartın ili ölçeğinde ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada, rastgele seçilmiş 394 hanehalkı bireyine anket uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulardan, Bartın’daki hanehalkı bireylerinin kendilerini yoksul olarak algılamadıkları ve Bartın ilinde yoksulluk oranını yaklaşık olarak %27 seviyesinde tahmin ettikleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
