ROMA İMPARATORLUK TARİHİ'NDEKİ“KÖTÜ İMPARATOR” KAVRAMINA BİR ÖRNEK: ELAGABALUS

Abstract

İmparator Elagabalus, Roma Tarihinin en aykırı karakterlerinden biri olarak karşımıza çıkar. Elagabalus'un sıradışı olarak nitelendirilen yaşamı, onu Roma İmparatorluk tarihinin kötü yöneticileri arasına sokmuştur. Özellikle antik kaynaklarda karakterinin ve yaşamanın kötülüğü sıkça vurgulanmıştır. Kaynaklardaki yanlı tutum, söz konusu durumun gerçekliği konusunda soru işaretlerine neden olmuş, farklı bir yöntem ile imparatorun karakter analizi yapılmaya çalışılmıştır. Buna göre Elagabalus'a ait heykeltıraşlık eserleri fizyognomik yöntemlerle incelenmiş ve ilginç sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır
