TURKEY-GREECE RELATİONS İN THE CONTEXT OF INTERNATİONAL STUDENT AND ACADEMİC STAFF MOBİLİTY

Abstract

The aim of this research is to reveal the current situation of Greek students and academic staff in Turkey within the scope of international mobility. The data set of the study, which was conducted with a qualitative research model and used document analysis as a data collection technique, consists of statistical information published by the Council of Higher Education. The analysis of these data covering the years 2015-2024 was carried out using the descriptive analysis technique. According to the research findings, it has been determined that the number of Greek students has been continuously increasing between 2015 and 2020, but has been decreasing since then, that female students are predominant in the distribution of students by gender, that the number of students studying at the undergraduate level ranks first in the distribution by level of education, and that the number of students studying at the doctoral level is increasing every year. It has been determined that the number of universities preferred by Greek students has increased in recent years, and the most preferred universities are Trakya University, Anadolu University, Bursa Uludağ University, Istanbul University, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University. It has been observed that the number of graduate students has also decreased in recent years, with female students being more prominent in the gender distribution and undergraduate and graduate students being more prominent in the distribution by level of education. Other findings of the study include the gradual decrease in the number of Greek academic staff working in Turkey over the years, the fact that the number of male academic staff is greater than the number of female academic staff, and the fact that the academic staff consists mainly of lecturers with the title of assistant professor and lecturer.

Bu araştırmanın amacı uluslararası hareketlilik kapsamında Türkiye’de bulunan Yunanistanlı öğrenci ve öğretim elemanlarının mevcut durumunu ortaya koymaktır. Nitel araştırma modeliyle yürütülen, veri toplama tekniği olarak doküman analizine başvurulan çalışmanın veri seti Yükseköğretim Kurulu tarafından yayımlanan istatistiksel bilgilerden oluşmaktadır. 2015-2024 yılları arasını kapsayan bu verilerin analizi betimsel analiz tekniğinden yararlanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre Yunanistanlı öğrenci sayısının 2015-2020 yılları arasında sürekli artarken bu tarihten sonra düşüşe geçtiği, öğrencilerin cinsiyete göre dağılımında kadın öğrencilerin ağırlıkta olduğu, öğrenim kademesine göre dağılımda lisans düzeyinde öğrenim gören öğrenci sayısının ilk sırada yer aldığı, doktora düzeyinde öğrenim gören öğrenci sayısının ise her geçen yıl arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Yunanistanlı öğrencilerin tercih ettiği üniversite sayısının son yıllarda artış gösterdiği, en çok tercih edilen üniversitelerin başta Trakya Üniversitesi olmak üzere Anadolu Üniversitesi, Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, İstanbul Üniversitesi, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi ve Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Üniversitesi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Mezun öğrenci sayılarının da son yıllarda düşüşe geçtiği, cinsiyet dağılımında kadın öğrencilerin, öğrenim kademesine göre dağılımda lisans ve yüksek lisans mezunlarının öne çıktığı görülmüştür. Türkiye’de görev yapan Yunanistanlı öğretim elemanı sayısının yıllar içerisinde kademeli şekilde düşüş göstermesi, erkek öğretim elemanı sayısının kadın öğretim elemanı sayısından fazla olması, akademik personelin ağırlıklı olarak doktor öğretim üyesi ve öğretim görevlisi unvanına sahip öğretim elemanlarından oluşması araştırmada ortaya çıkan diğer bulgulardır.
