Modification of Poplar Wood (Populus euramerican I-214) Fibers with Succinic Anhydride: IInd the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Urea Formaldehyde used MDF

Abstract

To improve the physical and mechanical properties of MDF, poplar wood fibers (Populus euramericana I-214)were modified with succinic anhydride before the board manufacturing. During MDF production ureaformaldehyde was used at 5% and 8% concentration. Gravity, rupture modulus, tensile strength, waterabsorption, thickness swelling and hardness on MDF boards produced from control and succinylated fibers wereinvestigated. While modulus of rupture and tensile strength of MDF produced from succinylated fibers were increased, waterabsorption, thickness swelling and hardness of these MDF were decreased.

Melez kavak (Populus euramerican I-214) liflerinden üretilen MDFlerin fiziksel ve mekaniksel özellikleriniiyileştirmek amacıyla lifler, levha üretim öncesinde suksinik anhidritle modifiye edilmiştir. Levha üretimaşamasında %5 ve %8 oranında üre formaldehit tutkalı kullanılmıştır. Kontrol ve suksinillenmiş liflerdenüretilen MDF'lerin yoğunluğu, eğilme direnci, çekme direnci, su alma, kalınlığına şişme ve janka yüzey sertliğiözellikleri incelenmiş olup modifikasyon işlemin etkinliği belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır.Suksinillenmiş liflerden üretilen levhaların eğilme ve çekme dirençleri kontrol örneklerine göre artarken, 2 ile 24saatte su alma ve kalınlığına şişme özellikleri iyileşmiş, janka yüzey sertliği ise düşük bulunmuştur.
