REFLECTIONS FROM DEVELOPMENTS THAT EFFECT THE SOCIAL STRUCTURE DURING ARMISTICE PERIOD IN ISTANBUL

Abstract

Armistice period which covers the years 1918-1922, represent the transitional phase from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey. The process that starts with the signing of the Mondros Treaty on 30 October 1918 has an uncomfortable status which change both political and society. With the occupotion of their land, people of İstanbul had to face many problems. In the study, we will discuss the developments that effect the social structrate of İstanbul through the newspapers “İkdam” and “Tasvir-i Efkâr” between the years 1920 and 1922.

1918-1922 yıllarını kapsayan Mütareke dönemi, Osmanlı Devleti'nden Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'ne geçiş evresini teşkil etmektedir. 30 Ekim 1918'de Mondros Mütarekesi'nin imzalanmasıyla başlayan, siyasal olduğu kadar toplumsal dönüşümlerin derin izler bıraktığı bu süreç İstanbul için ayrı bir önem taşımaktadır. Şehrin işgal edilmesiyle kendi toprağına yabancı kalan İstanbul halkı, şimdiye kadar karşılaşmadığı pek çok sorunla yüzleşmek zorunda kalacaktır. Bu çalışmada Mütareke dönemi İstanbul'unda toplumsal yapıyı etkileyen gelişmelere dönemin iki önemli gazetesi İkdam ve Tasvir-i Efkâr gazetelerinin 1920-1922 yıllarındaki haberleri ışığında genel bir çerçevede değinilecektir.
