Lifelong Library: A New Website Experience

Abstract

The concept of Lifelong Learning is based on the idea that development and renewal are an endless journey. When we consider that libraries are information and life centers that rapidly integrate and adapt to change, the concepts of library and lifelong learning are inseparable. To emphasize this understanding, reach individuals at every life stage from this perspective, and support it under the roof of libraries with the conscious touch of librarians, an interactive web platform called Lifelong Library was created between 2024 and 2025. This platform aims to increase users' sense of belonging to libraries by offering rich activities that can be implemented in libraries and appeal to all ages and areas of interest, to support lifelong learning skills, to reinforce literacy skills, to strengthen the interaction between librarians/information professionals/users, and thus to facilitate access to information. With a wide range of activities prepared or in the process of being prepared for each life period (infancy/childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age), efforts are made to open the door to learning and development. It is believed that this platform, which aims to showcase libraries' role in lifelong learning through applications, will allow users to explore, interact, and continue learning at their own pace. In this article, the emergence and development stages of the website Lifelong Library are described, along with the goals they aim to achieve as they progress and the potential benefits for libraries.
