Evaluation of Student Satisfaction in Higher Education Quality Assurance System: The Case of Isparta University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Forestry

Abstract

Students are among the important stakeholders in the studies carried out within the scope of the quality assurance system in higher education institutions. Particularly, involving students in the process and receiving feedback from students make very important contributions to the functioning of the process. The aim of this study is to measure and evaluate student satisfaction regarding the internalization and dissemination of quality assurance culture in higher education institutions within the scope of Turkish Higher Education Quality Council evaluation criteria in the example of Isparta University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Forestry. The data were collected by questionnaire technique. According to the results of the study, the subjects that the students were most satisfied with; Contributing to the professional development of field applications, announcement of course schedules on time, strong student-teaching staff communication, examinations being held in appropriate environment and conditions, and scientific meetings to support academic development. Balanced planning of exam programs, the level of summer internship information, field trips, social, cultural, artistic and sportive facilities and activities, canteen services, the adequacy of psychological counseling services and university cafeteria services, and the effectiveness of student communities were determined as subjects with relatively low level of satisfaction.

Yükseköğretim kurumlarında kalite güvencesi sistemi kapsamında yapılan çalışmalarda öğrenciler, önemli paydaşlar arasındadır. Özellikle öğrencilerin sürece dahil edilmesi ve geri bildirimlerin alınması, sürecin işleyişine çok önemli katkılar sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Isparta Uygulamalı Bilimler Üniversitesi Orman Fakültesi örneğinde Yükseköğretim Kalite Kurulu değerlendirme ölçütleri kapsamında yükseköğretim kurumlarında kalite güvencesi kültürünün içselleştirilmesi ve yaygınlaştırılmasına yönelik öğrenci memnuniyetlerini ölçmek ve değerlendirmektir. Araştırma verileri anket tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre öğrencilerin en çok memnun oldukları konular; arazi uygulamalarının mesleki ve bireysel gelişim için katkı sağlayıcı nitelikte olması, ders programlarının zamanında duyurulması, öğrenci-öğretim elemanı iletişiminin güçlü olması, sınavların uygun ortam ve koşullarda gerçekleştiriliyor olması ve akademik gelişimi destekleyecek sayıda bilimsel toplantının yapılmasıdır. Sınav programlarının dengeli biçimde planlanması, yaz stajı ile ilgili bilgilendirme düzeyinin, arazi uygulama gezilerinin, sosyal, kültürel, sanatsal ve sportif tesislerin ve etkinliklerin, kantin hizmetlerinin, verilen psikolojik danışmanlık hizmetlerinin ve üniversite yemekhane hizmetlerinin yeterliliği ve öğrenci topluluklarının etkenliği göreli olarak memnuniyet düzeyinin düşük olduğu başlıklar olarak belirlenmiştir.
