Meslek yüksekokulunda görev yapan öğretim elemanlarının bilgi gereksinimleri ve bilgi arama davranışları: Bartın Üniversitesi Ulus Meslek Yüksekokulu örneği

Abstract

Bilgi gereksinimi kavramı zihinsel bir süreci ifade etmektedir. Kullanıcının bulunduğu konumdaki eksiklik anlamındaki bilgi gereksinimi, kişinin içinde bulunduğu belirsiz veya problemli durumlarıhalihazırda var olan bilgisiyle çözemediği an başlamış olur. Bilgi gereksinimi, kullanıcının kendisini kanıtlama, var olan bilgi birikimine katkıda bulunma ve kişisel gelişim gibi amaçlar doğrultusunda oluşur ve bilgi erişim için çeşitli davranışlar sergilenerek bilgi aramaya doğru dönüşüm yaşar. Kullanıcılar açısından bilgi arama, var olan bilgi erişim sistemleri içerisinden gereksinim duyulan bilgiye ilişkin en isabetli bilgiyi bulma ve sistem içerisinden çekilip alınmasıdır. Bilgi arama stratejilerinin belirlenmesi kullanıcının bilgi gereksinimleriyle yakından ilgilidir. Bilgi arama davranışı, kullanıcılar tarafından gereksinim duyulan bilgiye erişim sürecindeki yaşanan sorunların çözümünde önemli bir etkendir. Çalışmadaki odak kullanıcı grubu olan Meslek Yüksekokulu (MYO) öğretim elemanlarının da uyguladıkları bilgi arama davranışları bilgiye erişmedeki problemlerin çözümünde başrolü oynamaktadır. Üniversite kütüphaneleri de bu noktada öğretim elemanların tarafından bilgilerin karşılanmasını kendilerine temel misyon edinmişlerdir. Bu doğrultuda kullanıcıtaleplerine yönelik hem basılı ve hem de gelişen teknolojiyle birlikte elektronik kaynakların sağlanması ile bilgi hizmetlerinin sunulması işlemleri için çaba sarf etmektedirler. Kaynakların seçimi ile doğru ve tutarlı bilgi hizmetleri politikalarının oluşturulması da öğretim elemanlarına yönelik bilgi gereksinimlerinin saptanması ve bilgi arama davranışlarının belirlenmesi ile mümkün olacaktır. Bu çalışmada, belirli mesleklere yönelik ve iş dünyasının ihtiyaç duyduğu teknik bilgiye ve donanıma sahip ara insan gücü yetiştirmeyi amaçlayan meslek yüksekokullarındaki öğretim elemanlarının bilgi gereksinimlerinin tespiti ve bilgi arama davranışları Bartın Üniversitesi Ulus MYO özelinde incelenecektir. Çalışmanın amacı, üniversiteler için önemli fakat merkeze uzaklıklarısebebiyle dezavantajlı konumda bulunan MYO’lardaki öğretim elemanlarının uzmanlık alanlarıyla ilgili gereksinim duydukları bilgileri karşılamada merkez kütüphanenin rolünün belirlenmesidir. Çalışmada, meslek yüksekokullarında görev yapan öğretim elemanlarının bilgi gereksinimlerinin tespiti ve bilgi arama davranışlarının belirlenmesine yönelik olarak betimleme yöntemi kullanılmış verilerin elde edilmesi için anket tekniğinden yararlanılmıştır. Ayrıca öğretim elemanlarının yayınlarına yönelik kaynakça analizi ve görüşme tekniklerinden yararlanılmıştır.

The concept of information need refers to a mental process. The need for information, which means a lack of information in the user's position, starts when the person cannot solve the uncertain or problematic situations in which he is present with his existing knowledge. The need for information is formed in line with the purposes of the user to prove himself, contribute to the existing knowledge and personal development, and by exhibiting various behaviours for information access, it transforms towards information seeking. For users, searching for information is finding the most accurate information about the information needed from the existing information access systems and extracting it from the system. Determining information search strategies is closely related to the user's information needs. Information seeking behaviour is an essential factor in solving the problems experienced in accessing information needed by users. The information-seeking behaviours of the Vocational High School (Vocational School) instructors, who are the focus user group in the study, play a leading role in solving the problems in accessing information. At this point, university libraries have adopted the primary mission of meeting the information by the teaching staff. In this direction, they are making efforts to provide printed and electronic resources with the developing technology and provide information services for user demands. The selection of resources and the creation of correct and consistent information services policies will be possible by determining the information needs of the instructors and determining their information-seeking behaviours. In this study, the determination of the information needs and the information-seeking behaviours of the instructors in vocational schools aiming to train intermediate human resources with the technical knowledge and equipment needed by the business world and for certain professions will be examined in the context of Bartın University Ulus Vocational School. The study aims to determine the role of the central library in meeting the information needed by the faculty members in vocational colleges, which are essential for universities but disadvantaged due to their distance from the centre. In the study, the descriptive method was used to determine the instructors working in vocational schools' information needs and information-seeking behaviours. The survey technique was used to obtain the data. In addition, bibliography analysis and interview techniques were used for the publications of the instructors.
