Özet
This chapter focuses on the fire retardancy features of polymeric materials involving fullerene and nanodiamond (ND). It starts by presenting the integration of carbon-based nanomaterials to polymers as promising flame-retardant performance. Their flame-retardant activity in the polymer structure, as well as the synergistic interactions with other additives, are clarified. It then introduces fullerenes and their flame-retardant effect in addition to the thermal and thermo-oxidative properties of incorporated polymers. Thermal conductivity and fire protection effect of ND were also discussed. By the end of the chapter, the application examples of fullerene and ND inclusions to fabricate fire retardant polymer composites including numerous thermoplastics and thermosets are explained. A full discussion of fire mechanisms is included to evaluate them in flame retardancy interactions. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
