Özet
Solo exhibitions are important events where artists have the opportunity to present their works and interact with audiences. These exhibitions mark the culmination of the artists' creative process, signaling the moment when their works are ready to meet the public. Beyond this, an exhibition serves as a prestigious activity through which the artist communicates with their audience. However, there are various ambiguities both in our country and globally regarding the definition and criteria of solo exhibitions. Issues such as the criteria for defining an exhibition as a solo exhibition and how to establish a concrete framework for these exhibitions are central to this ambiguity. The aim of this research is to address these uncertainties and create a concrete framework for solo exhibitions, fostering a discussion and reflection on the essential characteristics that solo exhibitions should possess. This qualitative research was conducted using a case study model. Data were collected through an interview form prepared with expert opinions and obtained through face-to-face interviews with a total of 44 individuals at the ARTANKARA 9th International Contemporary Art Fair held in 2023. The interviewees included 21 artists, 11 academic artists, 8 gallery owners, 2 curators, and 2 collectors. The data were analyzed using content analysis and presented through tables. The findings of the research indicate that the majority of artists, academic artists, gallery owners, curators, and collectors agree that the decision-making authority in the process of organizing a solo exhibition lies with the artist themselves.
